Travel

Travel Awards - Applications for Travel Awards are now closed

Meeting registration fees will be waived and some travel expenses will be reimbursed for all contributions selected for oral presentation. In addition, travel awards are available for young scientists (graduate students and postdoctoral researchers) as well as professors and other scholars from outside of the U.S. Recipients of travel awards will have their registration fee waived and will receive up to $600 in travel reimbursement for U.S. domestic travelers and $1,350 in travel reimbursement for international travelers. We expect that 5-10 of each type of award will be made, depending on registration and fundraising by May 1.

To apply for a Young Scientist Travel Award, you must be a graduate student, medical student or postdoctoral researcher working on one of the paraoxonases or something related. To apply: (1) You must submit an abstract and present a poster at the meeting. Submit your abstract before you submit your application. (2) Send a curriculum vitae and cover letter explaining your interest in the 5PON meeting as well as why you need travel support in a single PDF file to 5pon@chemistry.osu.edu. Be sure to put "YSTA: Your Name" in the subject of the email, and include your full name, the name of your advisor and your abstract number at the top of the cover letter. (3) Have your research advisor send a short letter of recommendation with your name in the subject of the email to the same address. Advisors, note that funds are limited; please do not have students apply for this award if your lab has funds to cover travel expenses. Applications are due no later than April 20, 2012, and recipients will be announced by May 1, 2012.

To apply for an International Scholar Travel Award, you must be a professor or similar position at a university or research institute working on one of the paraoxonases or something related. To apply, (1) You must submit an abstract and present a poster at the meeting. Submit your abstract before you submit your application. (2) Send a curriculum vitae and cover letter explaining your interest in the 5PON meeting as well as why you need travel support in a single PDF file to 5pon@chemistry.osu.edu. Be sure to put "ISTA: Your Name" in the subject of the email, and include your full name and your abstract number at the top of the cover letter. Note that funds are limited; please do not apply for this award if your lab has funds to cover travel expenses. Applications are due no later than April 20, 2012, and recipients will be announced by May 1, 2012.

Note that we can waive meeting registration fees prior to the meeting, but travel reimbursements can only be made after the meeting with receipts, up to the amount indicated in the award letter.

Air Travel

Columbus is served by the Port Columbus International Airport (CMH), with direct connections to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, all three airports in New York City, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Washington, D.C., among others.

Travel to and from The Hotels

For guests staying at The Blackwell, a complimentary shuttle is available to and from the airport. We will also run a bus to and from the airport on the first and last day of the conference. All conference events are within walking distance of The Blackwell. Shuttles will run from the Port Columbus International Airport (CMH) to the hotels on Sunday, July 15, at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, and from The Blackwell to CMH on Wendesday, July 18, at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. These shuttles are open to registrants, but you MUST reserve a space on them by emailing 5pon@chemistry.osu.edu. Space is limited on each shuttle; please reserve by July 6.

A shuttle will make limited trips between those hotels and The Blackwell each day of the conference. Cabs are also available for other times. Most of the the Olentangy River Road hotels have free parking if you prefer to drive or rent a car.

Parking

Valet parking is available at The Blackwell for $15 per night or $9 per day. Self-parking in the adjacent Lane Avenue garage is $2 per hour for 1-3 hours, $1 per hour for 4-7 hours, and $10 total for 7-24 hours.
